Booth Location - Does it matter?

Does the location of your exhibit space really matter? According to a report that was released by the Trade Show Bureau, "location in a trade show hall is neither a negative or positive factor in booth traffic, performance, or impact". Many exhibit managers have a tendancy to disagree with this statement. Please keep in mind that there is really not a "best" location. Some locations make more sense but every show floor plan is different. It also depends on the type of booth configuration you use.

If you are able to choose your space location, consider the following factors:
  • Location of competitors near your space.
  • Restrooms and food court- if your space is near these, visitors may bypass you.
  • Entrances/Exits - you can get great exposure if this is the only way to get to the show. This is a great high traffic area that can offer wonderful exposure.
  • Corners - front corners are great but stay away from the back corners.
  • Be careful of windows if your using AV presentations and/or backlit graphics.
Do avoid obstructing columns, low hanging ceilings, poorly lit areas, loading areas, and ceiling water pipes. Don't assume that these items will be marked on the floor plan. Be sure to ask the exhibit manager about the location.

Choosing a Trade Show Display Company

You need to cautiously investigate and select a trade show display company that has the capability to produce the display you want, can successfully interpret your needs, and has the turnaround time that will deliver your booth on time, matches your budget and stands behind their service and products.

The best place to start sourcing a supplier is to visit a trade show and talk with exhibitors who have the type of booth
you like. You may want to get referrals from professional organizations, your chamber of commerce, and/or colleagues. Of course, the internet is another valuable resource for finding trade show display companies worldwide.

Once you have a list of possible trade show display companies, set up a time to talk with a representative from each company. This will enable you to evaluate expertise, find out how each company operates, obtain written pricing quotes, request photographs of completed projects, and secure a list of references to contact.

Ultimately, the best trade show display companies are those that treat you and your business with respect and consideration by taking the time to understand your needs so that they can offer products and services that you'll be happy with for many years to come.
